Paris in August

We went to Paris for our five-year anniversary! Some highlights:

  • Stayed at Hotel Londres
    • Small, but quiet. In a business district, so everything closes early
  • Monday
    • Fly overnight, arrived at 8am.
    • Buy 10 tickets for bus/tram at airport to save time (forgot this, actually)
    • Arc de Triomphe
    • Dinner at Grand Canal cafe
  • Tuesday
    • Saw Hotel de Ville
    • Sainte-Chapelle is a beautiful, tiny chapel
    • Notre Dame
    • Lunch at Cafe Panis
    • Night bus tour
  • Wednesday
    • Eiffel Tower first thing in the morning! We walked halfway up, then took the elevator the rest of the way up to the top.
    • Macarons inside Printemps shopping center (bottom floor) are delish
    • Opera House
    • Louvre at night (6pm, less crowded)
  • Thursday
    • Take the rail out to Disneyland, but make sure to buy your tickets to go back as soon as you arrive! The rail doesn’t go all night, and we almost got trapped 45 minutes outside the city.
    • Make sure and go up and inside the castle!
  • Friday
    • Versailles
    • Guided tour is SO worth it to skip the long wait line! We Ubered out to Versailles.
    • Make sure to spend time in the gardens!
    • La Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmartre
  • Saturday: fly home!
  • Other notes:
    • Our Visa card worked fine all week, until Disney. Then, the metro system didn’t want to accept it at all. Luckily, we had some cash on hand to exchange. Our card still worked other places, just not the metro.
    • We got along just fine speaking English, and pointing at things. Most people spoke at least a bit of English.
