A Recap of Summer 2015

A busy summer = a summer that comes and goes in the blink of an eye. We had a fun (and at times, exhausting) summer. Here’s a little recap:

At the beginning of May, I was recovering from some unknown “illness” that made me curl up on the couch like a baby for almost a month. In the middle of dealing with feeling awful, we also had to travel to Kansas to attend my mom’s burial service.

Mid-May, our pup, Morgan (Freeman), joined the family! He was only five months old when we got him, but (thankfully) was mostly trained by that point. There’s been some adjusting to have a dog in the house, but we love him to pieces!

At the end of May, we took a two-day trip to Tennessee with some close friends of ours. We stayed at a state park “retreat” center. Our time there was just focused on hanging out and (mostly) relaxing. We grilled our meals, hammocked, and hiked!

June was our quiet month. I was playing catch up with work after being out most of May, adjusting to having Morgan around, and trying to work ahead because July was going to be really busy. One fun thing we did do was check off a line on our 101 in 1001 list. We went to the highest point in Georgia – Brasstown Bald!

The month of July started off slow, nothing too crazy. We did go down to Atlanta to see some fireworks for the 4th again, which was fun (and involved getting some King of Pops, nom nom).

Mid-July, we went to Mexico with my family. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort, which was super fun and relaxing. There were activities we could do all around the resort, but we mostly stuck to swimming around the pools and indulging in the swim-up bars in each pool. While in Mexico, my sister also got engaged! YAY! It was fun to be there to see all of the excitement.

The week after Mexico, I flew up to Kansas to help Tiffany find her wedding dress, while Aaron drove down to Savannah to vacation with his side of the family. I was supposed to be there, too, but your sister only shops for a wedding dress once!

After we both returned from our separate trips, we had a few days before we both left for vacation. Our anniversary trip this year was to California! I think for both of us, this was one of our favorite trips we’ve taken so far.

We started in southern California, and saw our good friend Kelli (and her roommate, Jessica). We visited San Diego, and then spent a day at Disneyland. The third day of our trip, we rented a car and drove up the coast to northern California. This was SUPER fun, riding up the beautiful coast in a Mustang :) and we got to drive through Big Sur – probably one of my top favorite places I’ve ever visited.

The last two days, we spent in San Francisco, and got to see our good friend, Ellie! We did all the tourist-y things around SF, and walked our legs off. Muir Woods, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the food were probably our top three favorite things about SF. By the end of the week, we were exhausted, but had SO much fun!

We got back from California, and I hopped on a plane to Kansas. My dad had knee replacement surgery, and my sister and I each took shifts taking care of him. Thankfully, recovery went/is going well.

The next week, was our three year anniversary! We’ve been together a total of five years, which seems so long. But, each year just gets better and better, and for that, we are so thankful. :)

And last, but not least, Aaron also got a new job at the end of August! He is now the Technical Director at a local Baptist church. He’s really excited about the new opportunity and new step in his career.

As if all that wasn’t enough, we’ve also been in the process of writing + creating + laying out our children’s book during all of this! We’re so excited to publish and launch the book in just a few weeks!
